About Us
Statistical consulting at the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics occurs through the Statistical Consulting Service (SCS). The faculty and staff of the department provide expertise in statistical data analysis in support of research at the Health Sciences Center and the University of Louisville as well as for other health care organizations, research centers, businesses and non-profit entities outside the university.
Services
The consulting services we provide include experimental design, power and sample size calculation, data management, statistical analysis and modeling, and technical report writing. Our consultants are available for both short-term projects and long-term collaborations. They can also serve as investigators or key personnel on grant proposals and assist with protocol development.
Expertise
Our team has expertise in a range of methods used in biostatistical applications, including bioinformatics. We have extensive experience using both SAS and open-source R software, and we also support work in SPSS. This allows us to tailor our approach to the specific needs of each project and investigator.
Fees
For investigators within the university, the consulting rate is $70/hour for staff biostatisticians and $120/hour for faculty biostatisticians. Estimates are provided in advance, and the first hour of consultation is free. For external investigators, fees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
