UofL Public Health Alumna Named to Louisville Business First Forty Under 40 List
August 19, 2026
Each year, Louisville Business First identifies forty rising stars across the city who are making a positive impact in their companies, industries and local communities.
Selected from a pool of nearly 600 nominees, University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) alumna Kiara James ’17, ’22, is among the honorees named to this year’s Forty Under 40 list. A two-time graduate of SPHIS, James earned both a bachelor’s degree in public health and a master’s degree in health administration.
James is currently a Hospital Violence Intervention Supervisor at UofL Health.
“I am honored to be recognized as one of Louisville Business First’s 2026 Forty Under 40 for my work supporting individuals impacted by gun violence and those living with spinal cord injuries,” James said. “This recognition reflects the power of and the importance of addressing the social and structural factors that influence health.”
James said her education at UofL has played an important role in her work.
“My education at SPHIS equipped me with the knowledge and tools to turn public health principles into meaningful, community-driven action,” she said. “I am grateful to everyone who has supported this journey and remain committed to advancing health equity and improving outcomes throughout our community.”
James and other honorees will be celebrated at an event on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Churchill Downs Racetrack First Turn Club.
