Dr. Abby Burns Hagemeyer Lands CSTE Fellowship

After an extensive application process, Abby was one of only 22 candidates nationwide selected for this fellowship. CSTE is a national organization that works to advance public health policy and epidemiologic capacity.

Abby has relocated to Rockville, Maryland, in their Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ). She said, “Over the next two years I will be working on various projects that include research on marijuana, opioid, and alcohol use as well as mental health illness.”

The CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellowship (AEF) program is a mentorship-based, on-the-job training program. When asked what appealed to her about this opportunity, Abby said she was drawn to it because it is competency-based as well as modeled after the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service program. She concluded by saying, “I felt this type of on-the-job training would prepare me most for a successful career in public health.”
